ACTIVITIES

OPEN HOUSE

HSH YB has three Open Houses each year. Each school year opens with a potluck parent/student orientation where everyone is informed about HSH YB's school culture, rules & regulations, schedules, calendars, etc.  Teachers are introduced and a short power point presentation is shown.

Afterwards, teachers, parents and students get acquainted at the potluck celebration.

The second one is at the end of the first trimester or the beginning of the second trimester and the third one is during the third trimester.

Although, parents are free to call and make an appointment at any time regarding their child's progress, open house serves as an opportunity for studernts to showcase their work.

FIELD TRIPS

This year's field trip (October, 2013) was to the Ray Charles Museum.  Twenty students went on this amzing tour.

Students were intrigued by the video and memorabilias and they had great fun creating their own beats and song.  Staff and students received stnding ovations for their performances with "Hit the Road, Jack" track.

We would like to plan three more trips this year:  The Science Museum, MOCA, Museum of Tolerance, along with several college tours.  These excursions are costly and we are in dire need of donations to fund these fun-loving, learning experiences.

CHRISTMAS

TOY DRIVE

Each year HSH YB gives back to the community by collecting and buying toys for unfortunate children living in the commuity.  Students raise money by selling hot chocolate with free face-painting as children sit on Santa'sap, requesting Christmas joys and toys.

On Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 10:00 to 2:00, Santa will be giving away more than 1,000 presents.  Fifteen of our students from Leadership vounteered to man booths, give out food and toys.

Each year, HSH YB endeavors to do several projects that will empower the community.

SENIOR PICNIC

Each year, seniors enjoy a day of eating, fun and relaxation at Kenneth Hahn Park.  Last year, students enjoyed volleyball, basketball, football, hiking, fishing, great food and trememdous fellowship with the staff and teachers.

This year promises more of the same and even better.

CAR WASHES

Car washes are one of our leadership-led fundraisers.  Students are able to obtain credit for participation in such ventures.

Not only is money generated from the cars washed, but from donations, hot dog and soda sells.

Not only do students get a chance to earn credits while having fun, but they ge the opportunity to connect with the community where they attend school.

PROM

One of the highlights of seniors everywhere is the SENIOR PROM.  Since HSH YB opened its doors in September 2010, Home Sweet Home YouthBuild seniors and juniors party each year with other students from other YouthBuild sites in beautiful, romantic settings.

The cost is considerably lower than the traditional schools even though our students enjoy the same venues and cuisine.

Students and staff dance the night away.  The evenings' highlight is the crowning of the prom queen and king.

Our Leadership Team heads the production of each year's Yearbook that highlights all of the year's events and activities.
